The historic city of Ilorin is abuzz with mixed reactions following the announcement to relocate the annual cultural Durbar festival from the traditional Emir’s Palace grounds to the Adewale Baseball Park.

The festival, a cherished celebration of Ilorin Emirate heritage marked by vibrant horse parades and rich cultural displays, is scheduled to hold two days after the “Ileya” Eid-el-Kabir festivities. While some residents welcome the change as a step toward modernization and crowd control, others see it as a break from tradition that could erode the essence of the revered event.
